Planning a romantic weekend trip in Indiana?

Bottleworks Hotel, Romantic Couples Getaways in Indiana
Bottleworks Hotel, Mass Ave, Indianapolis
With Valentine's Day right around the corner, many of us are looking for the perfect place for a romantic getaway in Indiana, to spend quality time with your sweetheart. That said, in the dead of winter, and with no days off work, venturing too far away might not be in the cards for your romantic getaway. Well, the good news is, the Hoosier state has plenty of romantic hotels to offer!

I've been fortunate enough to live in Indiana for the vast majority of my life, including spending my three years of law school in Bloomington, and moving back home to Indianapolis right after graduation. Since then, we've spent plenty of time exploring all the Hoosier state has to offer for couples.

From chic city getaways in the heart of Indianapolis, to rustic Southern Indiana retreats, I've accounted for every type of taste when compiling my list.

And once you find the perfect spot for your getaway, why not take it up a notch and spring for the entire 'romance package' at your selected hotel? Bottle of champagne, chocolate-covered strawberries, the works! Unlike big cities hotels, adding this extra here in Indiana won't break the bank.

Alright, let's walk through my 6 romantic, couples getaway destinations in Indiana!

6+ Romantic, Couples Getaway Destinations in Indiana

Chic, Cutting-Edge Luxury: Bottleworks Hotel, Mass Ave, Indianapolis

Guest Room at Bottleworks Hotel
Our room at Bottleworks Hotel
The first hotel on my list is my go-to for a romantic weekend, The Bottleworks Hotel in the heart of downtown Indianapolis in the Bottleworks District on Mass Ave. A boutique hotel with modern amenities, the Bottleworks Hotel is part of a development built into a former massive Coca Cola bottling plant, now home to a movie theater, food hall, spa, bowling alley, and luxury restaurant, in addition to the hotel. It's also one of the best hotels I've ever stayed in, and that's saying something. Featuring comfortable rooms with modern brass fittings and flat-screen tv, each floor has its own still and sparkling water dispenser.  You won't want for a thing during your stay.

Need a drink? Stop by the lobby bar,
Sundry and Vice. Looking for a romantic date night? Two of Indy's most romantic and highly-rated restaurants are right on your doorstep, The Fountain Room and Modita.

The Bottleworks is the perfect place, in my book, for a romantic Indianapolis getaway. A romantic escape from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Extra credit: Looking for a bed and breakfast near Mass Ave?

Check out the Nestle Inn, Mass Ave.'s bed and breakfast, snuggled into one of downtown Indy's historic homes. Offering much more affordable prices than other downtown Indy hotels, the Nestle Inn may be the spot for you.

It's "not your grandma's b&b" in the heart of it all and very close the the Murat, if you want to take in a show. Need a date night idea? They offer cooking classes!

Midtown Modern Utilitarian:
Ironworks Hotel Indy

If you're looking for the perfect place for a centrally located Indianapolis getaway in a modern ruggedly utilitarian space, check out Ironworks Hotel Indy, at 86th and Keystone. A four diamond hotel, offering pet-friendly rooms (for a fee), and a $10 valet, it's a high-end, yet affordable option in the heart of the Indianapolis metro. As close as you can be to luxury dining (Provision, Ruth's Chris), and the best mall in Indy (The Fashion Mall at Keystone, which also has a movie theater with a bar), there's plenty to keep you entertained in midtown Indy.

A Musical Getaway:
Hotel Carmichael, Carmel

Romantic Couples Getaways in Indiana
Carmel Palladium
One of the newest hotels in the Indy area, the Hotel Carmichael in the heart of Carmel's City Center is the perfect spot for an easy getaway from Indianapolis.
Giving you access to all Carmel has to offer, from the Center for the Performing Arts, including the Palladium, to the shopping and dining in the City Center, to the Arts and Design District with its strollable galleries and many festivals, and during the holidays, the Christkindlmarkt: Carmel's premiere, authentic German Christmas market, which is consistently rated one of the best in the country.
Featuring well-appointed guest rooms, a charming lobby piano bar, and a unique, cabaret-style live music venue, Feinstein's at Hotel Carmichael, and very fine dining at Vivante.

Historic Hoosier Retreat:
French Lick Resort

Next on our list of romantic, couples getaway destinations in Indiana, we venture down to the gem of Southern Indiana, the historic spa towns of French Lick and West Baden, now referred to as "French Lick."

As early as the mid-19th century, Hoosiers were coming to the West Baden and French Lick springs to "take the waters" for their...health. You can still see (and smell) the sulphur springs today.

Now, you'll find a spa, many restaurants, a casino, a Pete Dye golf course, and plenty of spots to grab ice cream. There are two hotel options, which are connected by a walking path. West Baden Springs Hotel is slightly higher-end and is home to the famous domed ceiling. If it's in your budget, I'd selected West Baden for your romantic weekend. But, French Lick Springs Hotel, the slightly more budget-friendly and family-friendly option also makes for a great break from it all.

The resorts feature a large pool complex, complete with a hot tub and an indoor pool. Sign up for a historic tour and see all the ins and outs of the massive hotel complex.

Hole in the Wall: The Story Inn

Brown County, Indiana. 6 Romantic Couples Getaway Destinations in Indiana
Now we turn to one of the most romantic places in Indiana that you've never heard of the Story Inn in Nashville, Indiana. One a thriving small Indiana town, founded in 1851, Story's population dwindled and it became surrounded by public parks on 3 sides, including the Hoosier National Forest. Learn more about the fascinating history of Story, Indiana.

Offering both luxury dining and a limited amount of quaint, historic overnight accommodation, Story Inn is an easy, quaint Southern Indiana getaway from Indianapolis. Located close to all of the natural beauty of Brown County State Park, book early, if you want to visit in Fall!

Southern Indiana's Cutest Town, Bloomington

Sample Gates, Indiana University, Bloomington. 6+ Romantic Indiana Getaways
Sample Gates, Indiana University, Bloomington
Our final Indiana romantic getaway is the charming college town where I was lucky enough to earn my law degree, Indiana University, Bloomington. This big/small town offers beautiful scenery of the rolling southern Indiana hills, excellent restaurants, college sport viewing options, wine tasting at Oliver Winery, beer drinking at Bloomington-original Upland Brewery, Bloomington has enough to keep you entertained for several nights. Just a short drive from Indy, it's been made even speedier by the recent, long-standing roadworks in the area.

The romantic lodging options in Bloomington include the newer Graduate Hotel Bloomington or the more traditional, fewer frills Biddle Hotel at Indiana Memorial Union, on the IU campus. Grab a romantic bite to eat at my personal favorite romantic restaurant in Bloomington, Malibu Grill right on the square in the heart of downtown.

Extra Credit: New Buffalo, Lake Michigan

Not too far over the Michigan border, but definitely not in Indiana, hence the extra credit labeling, the the beautiful Harbor Grand Hotel in New Buffalo. The beach is just a short walk away. The hotel's balconies are a great place to enjoy a Bottle of wine overlooking stunning Lake Michigan, not too far from Indy.

Thanks for stopping by!
