Having just returned from our wonderful one-week getaway to the Sunshine State (southwest Florida, specifically), I feel like I've spent the entire week giving my fellow Florida-bound Midwesterners trips on what to wear in Florida. There's no happier Hoosier than one who's just landed in Florida and removed her sweatshirt on the way to beautiful beaches, colorful cocktails, and a dinner of delicious seafood with an ocean breeze. Trust me, I can confirm.

I've spent my fair share of time in Florida, either at beaches or theme parks, but the transition from Midwestern gray to the warmer weather and that bright Florida sun is always welcome, yet stark. Packing for a Florida trip is often a repetitive exercise for me - I often find myself having to repack my bag several times, removing the dark colors and heavy sweatshirts that are the staple of my October-March wardrobe up north.

So, I've rounded up my complete guide to packing for a Florida vacation, from the Florida Keys, Key West, to south Florida, all the way up to the theme parks and the Pan handle. I've included a Florida packing list down at the bottom, so if you're in a hurry, feel free to scroll.

I foresee more deep-dive Florida packing articles down the line, especially as we get used to traveling more with the little one. But for now, let's just pack for us, the 30-something mama.

{2026} Rules to dress by in Florida:

1. Bright Colors

Nothing looks more drab in the Florida sun than my slightly tired Midwestern winter wardrobe in February. Pack your suitcase full of bright, vibrant summer colors, no matter the time of year. Embrace your Florida self!

2. Breathable Clothing and Sun Protection

That said, it's always hotter in Florida than I'm expecting and you really should take 'the elements' into consideration when you're packing. Especially for trips where I'll be walking a lot or spending most of the time outside in the heat, I like breathable, athletic clothing.

Because of all of my health issues, I have to wear SPF clothing if I'm going to spend a lot of time outside. That said, I'm embracing it and loving: no sunburns, and the added protection against the heat. And they make cuter styles than they used to!

3. When in Rome...

Goofy puns, parrot heads, you name it - Florida is full of whimsy. You literally aren't in Kansas anymore. Don't dress like you're going to a funeral.

4. Find "Florida" stores

Alright! Now that we've discussed our 'rules to dress by,' let's dig into the actual items you'll want to be sure to pack for your trip to Florida.

Florida Beach Essentials

Really no matter what your schedule for your Florida vacation, you'll need to be fully prepared for the beach and/or pool days.

The most important element of this is obviously the bathing suit and cover-up. If you'll be spending the entire trip on the water (as opposed to, say, a theme park), I'd bring two suits and two cover-ups. I buy all of my suits from Minnow. They have great one-piece options (hello, new mom here!) that don't make me feel too frumpy.

If you're staying at a high-end resort, be sure you bring pool attire that's sufficient to cover-up in the lobby. Even in Florida, a lot of beach resorts don't allow bathing suits in the lobby, etc.

One essential item that I never skip is a good beach bag. If you're short on room in your suitcase, use your beach bag as your personal item/purse on the plane and put your real purse in there, along with all of your other travel junk.

Everyday Wear in Florida

For everyday touring, shopping, eating lunch, and exploring, I'd generally recommend a pair of shorts (or a cute skort/tennis skirt) and a colorful, SPF top. I tend to bring a few pairs of shorts: generally one denim/white denim, one or two pairs of bike shorts, and a pair of athletic shorts.

Even in the heat of summer, I tend to avoid 'tank tops' as there's no better way to get an unexpected sunburn that with exposed shoulders. Lightweight t-shirts are the name of the game.

In the heat of the Florida summer, you aren't going to need many pairs of jeans and leggings. Be sure to bring at least one pair of long pants, regardless of season, for bugs in the evenings.

Trendy tunics

For mimosas by the pool, a casual dinner, or to throw over your suit, you can't go wrong with a tunic. Understanding that tunics can trend a bit older, a tunic-dress with sneakers read a little younger.

Perfect Hats for Florida

And speaking of sun protection, I'd strongly recommend bringing both: a wide brimmed hat for the beach and a baseball cap or two for walking around during the day. I always forget how hot the sun is down there, and find myself immediately reach for a hat upon arrival. Nothing ruins a beach vacation like a pesky sunburn.

a note on Florida bugs...

On our most recent trip to Florida, I forgot to embrace the warnings about 'no-see-'ems' after dark. I spent two lovely evenings drinking my wine on a non-screened porch and my legs are absolutely COVERED in bug bites. So be sure to bring a pair of long pants, a shirt with long sleeves, and some sort of bug spray.

In the evening, ditch the tennis skirt for colorful dresses, white jeans, and patterned tunics. Be sure to check if anywhere you plan to eat dinner or grab drinks has a dress code.

FAQ: Packing for Florida in winter...Do I need a coat?

December-February, I'd bring a light jacket with you to Florida, for evening or early morning outdoor activities, just to be safe. We happened to visit Disney World recently during the wild cold snap, and were glad we had brought coats.

The right pairs of shoes for your trip to Florida

Ah yes, we have finally reached one of the most important aspects of packing for any vacation, especially a Florida vacation centered around theme parks: comfortable walking shoes.

For everyday wear, shopping, touring, walking, and, of course, time spent at any of the major theme parks, such as Disney World or Universal Orlando, I'd recommend some classic, clean, sneakers in basic, neutral colors, so you can mix and match outfits. I always bring two pairs of sneakers in case one gets wet or dirty, or in the event of blisters. Definitely break them in before to avoid this to the extent possible. I always walk so much more at Disney than I ever imagine I will.

For beach and pool days, some waterproof sandals are the name of the day. They don't have to be flimsy Old Navy beach flip flops. The Birkenstocks that are in style right now are perfect. Don't want to spend that much? Check out the version I grabbed from Target.

For evening or more fancy events, I like always like a Florida classic: Jack Rogers. Any type of leather sandal or espadrille will do the trick.

Styling in the Florida heat and humidity

It can be hard to look polished and put together on a Florida vacation, particularly in those boiling Florida summers, when your hair has taken on a life of its own in the humid climate. Regardless of the time of year, I say lean into the humidity and embrace some curly volume.

So you're off to one of my favorite places in the world, Colonial Williamsburg! For four wonderful years, I was lucky enough to live in Williamsburg while I received my bachelor's degree at The College of William & Mary, which counts a number of famous Americans, such as Thomas Jefferson, among its alumni. America's largest living history museum has a lot to offer. Walk where George Washington and other Founding Fathers walked, along still-cobbled streets. Eat at quaint restaurants, and visit enchanting historic homes planted firmly in the 18th Century....what more could you ask for?

In spring, the charming streets of the colonial capital are lined with gorgeous flowers. In winter, visit Colonial Williamsburg's historic area for Christmas and see the town lit up by Grand Illumination while you sip mulled cider. And don't forget to take advantage of Williamsburg's 21st-century comforts as well: luxury hotels, relaxing spas, high-end restaurants, not to mention a number of additional tourist attractions in the Tidewater area or "historic triangle," which includes Jamestown (both Jamestown Settlement and the Jamestown archeological site) and Yorktown, not to mention Virginia Beach.

FAQ: What's the weather like in Williamsburg?

The vast majority of your time in Colonial Williamsburg will be outdoors, so it is worth digging a bit into the various seasonal conditions you can expect in southeastern Virginia during your visit.

Spring
Spring is 'prime time' in Colonial Williamsburg. Expect ideal temperatures (warmer than you might expect), lower humidity than summer, and a few rainy days.

Summer
Summer in Virginia is hot. Hot hot hot hot hot. Do not underestimate how hot it is. Oh and did I mention humid? I used to say it was like having a wet washcloth over your face. The sun isn't as intense as Florida, but pack that sunscreen.

Fall
Fall in Williamsburg is probably a little warmer than you might be expecting. They turned off our AC in mid-October and this Midwesterner always felt like it was a little too early.

Winter
Winter in Williamsburg, too, is warmer than you might expect. It rarely slows, and many days are still perfectly comfortable for walking around. Cold rain is the worst you'll usually face. A light puffer jacket should do the trick.

FAQ: Do I need an admission ticket to visit Colonial Williamsburg? Can I stop by for the day?

Yes and yes. To enter any of the historic buildings or attend the events, you need an admission ticket to Colonial Williamsburg. While you are welcome to just walk around CW without a ticket, I would strongly recommend supporting the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation and purchasing one. A ticket allows you entrance into all of the historic building, in addition to special performances and programs where you can witness history, reenacted before your eyes. Keep an eye on the CW website for special offers.

FAQ: Is there a lot of walking in Williamsburg?

Yes, a decent amount. For scale, Duke of Gloucester is about one mile long, with a few side streets coming off of it. If at all possible, I would strongly recommend staying in one of the official Colonial Williamsburg hotels. In addition to being genuinely nice places to stay, their proximity to the historic sites, not to mention modern shops and restaurants is unbeatable. You'll also get special perks, such as admission ticket discounts and the use of a free shuttle service.

FAQ: Should I wear athleisure in Williamsburg?

Williamsburg is a casual, tourist city. You're certainly welcome to wear athleisure, especially during the day when you're walking around. That said, it's not Disney World, and I wouldn't expect that you'll "need" athletic clothes. I generally wear a normal shirt and shorts, especially later in the day. There are several nicer restaurants in Williamsburg (it's a fairly high-end community, in addition to the tourism), so be sure to check out menu prices when planning your dinner attire.

FAQ: Can I use my own stroller in Colonial Williamsburg?

Yes. You are welcome to bring your own stroller or wagon to Colonial Williamsburg. Most streets are paved, and some are covered with a crunchy, shell-based ground cover. Some sites do not allow strollers/wagons, but they have parking spots where you can leave those items while you explore.

Don't underestimate the physicality of a trip to Colonial Williamsburg! In addition to the heat (see above), the historic area itself is surprisingly large and the historical attractions, shops, and restaurants are spread over a significant area. Duke of Gloucester Street itself is a mile long, and that doesn't include side streets.

The most important item in your bag is close-toed shoes.

"But what about the heat?"

You'll be fine. Sneakers, please. Save the sandals for the beach. While many streets are paved, a lot of the side streets and entrances to original sites in the historic area of Colonial Williamsburg use a ground covering of crushed shells which, I can tell you from years of experience, you do not want in your sandals. Oh and did I mention that those cuddly and ambiance-creating horses do their business where they please? Pack the sneakers.

Short, pants, and joggers for Williamsburg

Unless you'll be visiting in true winter, leave the jeans at home. From mid-April to October, it's just too hot to do any amount of tourism in jeans. Opt for shorts or light-weight travel pants or joggers. If you're confident in a light dress and sneaker combo, rock it.

Purses and bags for Williamsburg - all your questions answered

Within reason, you are permitted to bring almost any bag into CW with you. I'd encourage you to really bring essentials, to avoid being weighed down with unnecessary stuff. My general recommendation would be a medium-sized, closable, light-weight purse, with enough space to store the things you'll need for a day in the 'Burg.

FAQ: Can I bring a backpack into Colonial Williamsburg?

Yes. You may be asked to leave it out of certain buildings, and you will definitely be asked not to eat or drink inside the historic buildings. But with the head in Virginia, I'd be sure to keep some water on hand throughout your trip.

Don't forget - Williamsburg is a spring break destination, after all!

In addition to an incredible historic site, Williamsburg and the surrounding area is the ultimate family-friendly vacation town. So, don't forget your family travel essentials. Almost any hotel you stay in in Williamsburg, obviously including the resorts, will have a pool, so bring that bathing suit and pool essentials.

Colonial Williamsburg itself offers a number of great evening programs, including ghost tours and shows. Be sure to bring an extra layer if you intend to attend any of these nighttime events.

Trust me, I know! Packing for Walt Disney World can feel a little overwhelming. (But, if this is your first trip - trust me: every inconvenience is SO worth it). Before our first Disney trip with a kiddo (I'd been many times as a kid and as a couple), I diligently did my research and saw packing lists recommending everything from mini pharmacy kits to multiple outfit changes per day (per person!). {2026} Disney Mom Essentials I Actually Used at Disney World

Comfortable Walking Shoes
Disney World is certainly no time for blisters. From the minute the parks open ("ROPE DROP" for my newbies) until after the fireworks (if your kids are older than mine), a good Disney trip is an active Disney trip. Much like a Europe trip, I tracked upwards of 20,000 steps/day in Disney World, regardless of which park we visited. Even in the smaller parks, you're walking from the car/transit, into the park, and then, home etc. - it adds up!

So, naturally, sneakers are the name of the game. Disney is casual and athleisure is all the rage. So any type of comfortable, broken-in, SUPPORTIVE sneaker will do. I'm team Hoka myself. A Magic Band
No, you do not "have" to have a Magic Band, and you can use a card or your phone instead. But it is just so much easier to have the Magic Band on your arm. One less thing to worry about when you're wrangling the family in a crowd. Curious about whether you want to take the plunge on a Magic Band? Don't take my word for it - check out the whole post! A Small Crossbody Bag
Regardless of the age of your kids, a small crossbody bag is my go-to (more on total family bags in a second). I have my Magic Band, so I don't need/want to carry much, just one credit card and like $5 because I'm old, in addition to hand sanitizer, my phone, and some Motrin. I want to be hands free for rides, snacking, taking pictures, and dealing with my kiddo. Most women 'my age' wear a Lulu belt bag/fanny pack, or the small, decorated backpacks that they sell in Disney World. Even if you're bringing a larger bag, it's still nice to have the crossbody to put your sunglasses in on rides, etc. and have your phone safe (not in your pocket where I'm convinced it would fly out).

That said, even with a potty-trained kiddo, there's still a lot of 'stuff' that we needed to bring, so my husband took one for the team and carried his law school backpack (still going strong!) It it had just been the two of us, I'd have opted for the small Disney backpack, which would have been enough to hold everything I'd need for a day.
If you're looking for a bag that keeps your belongings secure at Disney (or, more likely on a cruise,, I recently tested pickpocket-proof bags from Arden Cove.

Our Own Stroller
We've been to Disney many times, but only twice with our daughter. When she was 2, we brought our own stroller and it worked great. When she was 3, we thought we might not need it much, and would try just renting a stroller at Disney. That was a mistake. The Disney rental strollers are hard plastic, low to the ground, and super loud. They don't have much storage for a backpack and you can't take them back to your hotel with you. You can also rent a fancier, softer stroller from companies that provide that service. But, next time, we'll just bring our own stroller and then we can also use it in the aiport.

Portable Phone Charger
No matter how much you think you use your phone, I promise you'll use it 10x more in Disney World. From booking Lightning Lanes to changing dinner reservations, placing mobile food orders, and taking photos, and unfortunate reality of the way Disney World is structured right now is it involves a lot of parental screen time (I don't love this, but idk how they or I could change it if the trip is going to be fun and flexible!) Your phone will likely lose battery over the course of an entire Disney park day. We tend to come home for nap time and then go to a different park in the afternoon, but if you're not doing that, you'll want to bring a phone charger or portable power bank to make sure you don't end up in a situation.

Hand Sanitizer
Just do it. Do your best. And it's obviously much cheaper if you bring it with you, than if you buy it in the parks.

Reusable Water Bottle
Regardless of time of year, staying hydrated in Disney World is a must. And as much as you spend for your Disney vacation and Disney Dining Plan, wasting those snack credits on water bottles is a no no. So, remember to bring a reusable water bottle that you can fill up in one of the park's many water fountains. While a lot of people opt for one with a straw, you may prefer a bottle that closes fully, so that I can toss it around and not have to worry about it spilling. This Belle water bottle has been calling my name...

Wet Wipes
Even though we don't 'need' baby wipes anymore, Disney World is just a very sticky place. I used our wet wipes for dirty hands and faces, and to wipe the handle of the stroller, etc.

Sunscreen
With the exception of our most recent visit during the bizarre cold snap, sunscreen is essential in Disney World year-round, at least on your face. The sun is more intense, and you're outside for far longer stretches than your typical day at home.

Poncho or rain jacket
Be it rain, wind, or just chillier temperatures, it's generally a good idea to include something you could wear in the event that the weather isn't as lovely and Florida as you were expecting. While you can obviously buy ponchos, Disney doesn't sell jackets/coats as heavy as I'd expect, since they aren't often needed. During the 'cold spell' we were lucky to have brought coats, as people without them, were limited to buying Disney sweatshirts.

Some fun (WEARABLE) outfits for my daughter
I knew my three-year-old would ADORE dressing up in Disney World. I wanted to find cute ways for her to feel engaged in the magic that wouldn't hamper our travel plans (aka we are not wearing a Halloween costume all day, which would have been her preference). So I'd suggest a few things:

One cute princess dress that isn't too bulky
Fun character pajamas

Snacks
Even with great food options, snacks are helpful with kids. And, honestly a small snack I could steal was helpful. Disney snacks are so fun, but sometimes I don't want a $10 cinnamon roll the size of my head to tide me over 'til lunch. The small snacks we brought with us were good for waiting in lines, or to keep my daughter powered up between meals if she started to fade. Pro tip: obviously you can bring snacks with you. If you go through them, or don't want to transport them, go to the grocery or order food delivery early in your trip to save a small fortune. There is a grocery not too far from Disney, if you have a car.

Our Hatch
As much as I love, no, ADORE, Disney World, when you fill a hotel with that many children, it's going to be a bit noisy. And we've been part of the noise, don't get me wrong. With a toddler who goes to bed fairly early, I was glad that we brought our Hatch to provide her with some white noise to try to sleep through it. If you DM me on Instagram, I'll tell you the room we always select at the The Polynesian that has a great toddler sleeping area...

Things I Regret Bring to Disney World

As with most trips, there were a few things I packed “just in case” that we never ended up using. If you're trying to keep your Disney park bag light, these are a few things I personally would skip next time.

Tons of extra outfits
When I was younger, I would often change into a slightly nicer outfit for dinner. But the reality of having kiddos is that her enjoyment is my priority, and we aren't going to the fanciest spots right now. Though we often went back to the hotel during the afternoon, and one comfortable outfit per park day was completely fine, as we did rides before and after dinner. Similarly, even when I did look slightly nicer, 'fancy sandals' aren't going to work. Even getting into the parks is such a haul, that sneakers are a must. Perhaps someday, when I'll be going just to the Grand Floridian for dinner at Victoria and Albert's...but those days seem far away to me right now!

(Another) larger bag
At one point I considered bringing a larger backpack so I could carry more things with us around the parks. I'm very glad I didn't. A small crossbody bag was much easier to manage on rides and while walking around all day. My husband brought a backpack for kid supplies and one was more than enough.

Items for the rental stroller
You have to load/unload your Disney rental stroller at the entrance to each park (you can't take it out of the park, back to your hotel, etc.). I had brought a few things for the stroller, which just ended up sitting in the room the whole time.

Cash
We'd been given some cash as a gift, so I brought it with us to Disney. I used it to buy some souvenirs, just because I had it, but it would have been much easier to just charge it to my room with my Magic Band.

Extra toiletries & my own hair dryer
I packed a few small travel toiletries, thinking they might come in handy during the day. At the hotel, I simply used the Disney shampoo and body wash provided in the room. At The Poly, the shampoo, etc. are now in large dispensers in the shower, which this eco-friendly gal (who also has a really wild amount of hair to wash and condition) really appreciates. There's a hair dryer in the room. It's fine. And it's Florida so your hair is a lost cause anyway.

Most moms only need a few essentials for a Disney park day: comfortable walking shoes, a small crossbody bag, sunscreen, a portable phone charger, and a reusable water bottle.

Most visitors only need one comfortable outfit per park day. Focus on breathable clothes and good walking shoes rather than packing multiple outfit changes.

Should I bring or rent a stroller in Disney World?
We have done both. If you have littles and you're 100% sure you'll use a stroller, I'd bring my own. The rental strollers (at the parks - there are private services you can use) aren't great and you can't take them out of the parks, so you have to unload all of your stuff before getting back on the Monorail, etc. If you want to rent, I'd go through a vendor to get a nicer stroller than Disney offers. Definitely make this plan well in advance, as it'll impact your packing strategy.

"America's Freshwater Resort," The Homestead (not to be confused with the one in Virginia, which is also lovely), has been providing visitors with a "home away from home," Up North, since its humble beginnings as a boarding school in the early 1920s.

Since then, it's grown into a relatively spacious resort, while maintaining an extremely welcoming and cozy ambiance. With multiple dining options, a little grocery, its own golf course, and a spa, The Homestead really has everything you need "on property."

What draws most visitors to Glen Arbor is the Sleeping Bear Dunes - consistently voted one of the most beautiful places in the US. Gorgeous sand dunes plunge into Lake Michigan, and visitors certainly climb and descend at their own risk. Depending on how adventurous you're feeling, you can select dunes where you climb either up or down (if you're nervous, do the one where you climb UP from Big Glen - then you can just climb down when you're tired. Even as a kid, climbing *down* the most famous of the dunes, seen below, is fun until you have to climb back up...)

A scenic drive through the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive offers 7.5 miles of gorgeous, nearly untouched vistas. You can easily drive through it on your way to something else, or as a quick break from the beach.

South Manitou Island Lighthouse

Visitors can explore where the recent growth of this area began, at the South Manitou Island Lighthouse. During the Great Lakes boom following the completion of the Erie Canal, the lighthouse led ships into the only natural harbor they'd reach until they made it all the way to Chicago. Today you can see the lighthouse and the little town surrounding it. It makes for a quaint reminder of the real risks that sailors faced crossing the Great Lakes and bringing goods out to the West.

There's nothing better than a trip to Walt Disney World and, for me, personally, the planning is half the fun. I am absolutely the organizer in the group; the one in the group who's managing every reservation and herding us from one ride to the next, with planned snack stops. And though you'll certainly spend your days logging 20,000 steps in the Magic Kingdom, you'll likely spend your evening sampling Disney's luxurious dining options and relaxing by the pool or at your hotel.

If you've been following along with my blog for a while, then you know I am a packing aficionado, and a bit of a clothes horse. I'm obsessed with packing for trips, and I love looking my best, no matter where I'm visiting. That said, I'll admit that I've always found theme parks a bit of a challenge. As an adult, I find packing for Disney to be sort of overwhelming. I want to look nice, but I don't want to be the mom who rolls in with the most bags for herself (not to mention - who wants to wrangle all of those in the airport...)

So, I thought it was time to take a deep dive and update my tips on packing for Disney World. As a thirty-something mama, I know it can be us who put the most into our trips, and planning for ourselves should be no exception. I've rounded up my perfect summary of everything you need to pack for Disney World. First, 'rules to dress by,' then Disney World Essentials, then some Disney outfits.

I like to start my "what to wear" posts with a few high-level things to to keep in mind while you're packing. In the case of a Disney World trip, it's a good idea to remember that while comfort is key, you can still look your best, while feeling your best all day (and taking care of the whole family).

1. Lean into the breathable fabrics of athleisure

A Disney vacation is a marathon, not a sprint. And the good news for us, is that the athleisure craze has generated an entire world of perfect outfits for Disney World. Leave the jeans at home. Athletic shorts, t-shirts, joggers, sneakers, crossbody bags (formerly known as a fanny pack), and anything from Lululemon will get you through your Disney trip in sweat-wicking style.

2. Comfort doesn't have to be sloppy

As I mentioned, feeling comfortable and cool, in every sense of the word, doesn't have to mean that you look like you just rolled out of bed. Plan easy outfits in advance, and you'll feel polished and put together throughout your trip.

You're prepping in advance, so you're already halfway there!

3. Embrace the magic

Bright colors are the name of the game. Leave the black leggings at home. Ok, you can bring one pair. Except in summer months when even the thought of leggings or anything black will make you start sweating. I brought two pairs this February and only wore them at night to prevent bug bites.

4. Break in your shoes, Mama

I shouldn't have to say this, but we all need reminding. A trip to Disney is not the time to wear your newest, unworn shoes. Buy new shoes for your trip, yes, but break those bad boys in long before you go.

5. Be ready to pivot

Motherhood makes us ready for anything, and pivoting on vacation is no exception. Pack a change of clothes not just for kiddos, but also one for yourself, in that diaper bag. Just roll up a pair of shorts and a t-shirt, in the even of calamity. Nothing makes a long day longer than a shirt covered in blueberry handprints and Dole Whip.

6. It can still be hot in the winter

It can be a bit of a good, but difficult, transition to Florida in the winter months, from the chilly upper reaches of the Midwest, at least for me! Really mentally prepare yourself for how hot you're going to get walking around all day in the Florida sun, even if it's unbelievable from your kitchen table in Indianapolis, looking out on a 25-degree afternoon! I had to unpack 3 sweatshirts from my bag on my most recent trip to Florida!! You just don't need them. The average high temperature at Disney World in February is in the low 70's.

7. Wear the ears

An influencer I really like recently shared a video about what a "cool mom" should wear in Disney World. And I respectfully object to the entire concept. The "cool" thing to do in Disney World is dive in, whole heartedly, into this celebration of childhood. And ears are a perfect example.
Whether you buy them at the parks (there are SO many options - it's incredible) or in advance, lean in and get some Minnie ears. It's fun, festive, and you'll look adorable in pictures.

FAQ: What should I wear in Disney World when it's cold?

It does get cold in Disney World. Not often, but it does happen. That said, it generally doesn't last more than a couple of days, or will warm up in the afternoon. We recently took a chillier trip to Disney World, and I relied on a warm, but light-weight winter coat, and coordinating purse and shoes, to look put-together. No need for a scarf. I wore a baseball cap on and light-weight, tech-friendly gloves on the absolute coldest mornings, but this truly was a fluke week.

Comfortable Footwear

Beyond a doubt, bringing the right shoes to Disney World should be - by far - the most important item on your list. Shoes are certainly where you should spend the most time and money, as a mistake on the shoe front will come back to haunt you for your entire vacation.

Before we get into the specifics, a couple over-arching tips. First, you must break in your shoes long before your trip. A few wears is just not enough. These need to be shoes that you have worn for full days and been completely comfortable. Preferably, they should be shoes you have worn on another vacation.

On our recent trip, my Hokas were truly the star of the show. Everyone was wearing them because they're like walking on air. I can't say enough good things about them.

Disney World Shoe Packing List:

Sneakers - For the day-to-day walking, I'd bring two pairs of nice sneakers. I generally switch back and forth between them to avoid blisters with all of that walking. I mean...it's a lot of walking. A lot.
Sandals - For any trip to Florida, you'll want to bring your comfortable sandals. For grabbing a quick bite, lounging around exploring your resort, or an afternoon/evening with less walking, I often opt for a pair of "nice" sandals.
Pool flip flops - I discovered these plastic version from Jack Rogers last year and immediately fell in love. Extremely reasonably priced and fully-plastic, but with that classic Jack Rogers style, they're the perfect, water-proof option for your time by the pool!

Layers and a Light Jacket

Depending on the time of year, don't forget your layers. Ignore this section if you're visiting June-August when it'll be hotter than anything.

Something that surprises visitors is learning that it is not boiling hot in Orlando all year 'round. Our last two visits have been in January/February, and on both visits, we definitely needed light jackets. The "locals" will always says it's "abnormally chilly," but it's really not - that's just their way of apologizing for the fact you can't go to the pool every day.

The weather fluctuates - depending on what time you hit the parks, if it's winter, it could be in the 40's/50's and you might want a small jacket...with the knowledge that it may be in the 70's when you return. Unless it's the heat of summer, I'd recommend bringing at least a light jacket, both for rain, and for morning or evening chill.

Rain Gear Essentials

The unfortunate reality of any trip is that it might rain, even in the happiest place on earth. And you are definitely not going to spend your entire day in the hotel just because of a bit of rain. While you can certainly rock the indelible...Disney poncho, why not just bring a travel umbrella, a light jacket, and some rain-proof shoes.

I would highly recommend not wearing pool flip flops to the parks in the rain, as your feet will be covered in whatever sort of germs are on the ground in Disney World, and I think we'd all rather not think about that. Additionally, walking a long distance in wet shoes will definitely cause serious rubbing.

Packing for Dinner in Disney World

Dinner at Disney is one of the gems of the experience - don't forget to bring clothes for it! So many people think only of the parks and forget to pack for the other events on the Disney docket. That said, many of your dinners won't be terribly formal - you'll want more relaxed, Florida attire.

Most restaurants around Disney don't have dress codes, particularly the locations in the parks, as many guests just go straight to dinner from a solid day on the rides. But, be sure to check, especially if you're hitting a fancier location, such as the higher end restaurants in the resorts. For me, I don't think you can go wrong with a good Lilly Pulitzer dress, a tunic, or a cute matching set, during the warmer months! Classic Florida attire if there ever was some.

FAQ: Can I bring a purse into the Disney parks?

Yes! You are allowed to bring a purse into the parks, as long as they meet the size requirements - I had been curious about this recently, given the restrictions at sports stadiums. But, with so many people having kids in tow, it just wouldn't be reasonable not to. You do have to go through security to enter each park - you may do it at your hotel or where you board transportation to get to the parks.

On the slower rides, such as Peter Pan, Small World, Haunted Mansion, Pooh Bear, etc., you are allowed to bring your purse on with you and just hold onto it.

The Perfect Purse for Disney World

I'd strongly recommend an easy, durable, hands-free belt bag. You can just leave those belt bags strapped on and not have to worry about a shoulder bag, or digging through the stroller for your personal possessions.

If you're going to be doing a date night, I'd slip a small, less utilitarian purse into your suitcase as well.

FAQ: Should I buy a backpack for Disney World?

Small, highly-decorated backpacks are all the rage in Disney World right now. There are tons of options, specifically themed to rides, characters, and parks. If they interest you, I'd strongly advise you to wait to buy one until you're in the parks - there are far more options on-site than they have online.

Disney World beach and pool essentials, regardless of season

Generally, hitting the pool is going to be on your agenda for a trip to Florida, even if a water park isn't in the cards!

Even if it's February and seems like it can't possibly be warm enough, go ahead and bring your swim gear - you'll definitely regret it if you don't, and it's super small, so it'll fit in your suitcase. Tons of people were swimming during 2/3 of our February visits.

If you're staying in a higher-end hotel, make sure you know what the dress code is in the lobby (many hotel won't let you run through the lobby in your bathing suit). So, be sure to bring a solid cover-up.

Sun Protection for Disney World

No matter the season, and regardless of my previous strictures on rain, don't forget to bring your sunscreen and hat. You'll see many a tourist with a *surprise* sunburn in January - the sun is hotter than you'd expect in Florida, and you'll be outside wandering around lots and lots, even if you aren't sitting out by the pool. I also try to avoid v-cut tops, as they inevitably lead to a weird chest sunburn.

We'll discuss hats more below, but I'd pack both a baseball cap for walking in the parks and, if you plan to have entire pool days as breaks from the parks, a large wide-brimmed hat.

The Right Shorts for Disney World

I'm more of a long pants girl myself, year 'round (yes, even in summer), but there are times when even I must wear shorts. That said, hopping on and off rides, I'd recommend longer shorts, to avoid sitting too directly on any of the ride seats (which, aside from being highly used, also can be hot/cold/wet, etc.)

I'd bring a couple pairs of athletic shorts (I like the Hotty Hot from Lulu), and a couple pairs of bike shorts, a skort, one pair of leggings/joggers, and a travel set for the return journey.

Ok, feel free to come for me in the comment section, but I'm going to recommend against wearing denim shorts for a long day of walking at Disney World. It's hot and denim is thick and heavy. And if you're anything like me, my 'thigh gap' is a thing of the past. The last thing you want to worry about is chaffing. We'll leave it at that.

Don't underestimate the tennis skirts and skorts trend

One of the first things I thought when people started wearing tennis skirts in everyday life was "wow that would make a really cute Disney World outfit."

Does that make me Disney crazy?
Yes.
Pair that with a polka dot shirt and you're everyone's favorite Disney character....just sayin'!

In all seriousness, a tennis skirt is a great way to stay cool while doing a ton of walking, which also keeps you perfectly 'on trend' in hot weather!

FAQ: Where can I order family shirts for Disney World?

Wanting to coordinate the whole family with themed shirts for your trip to Disney World? I'd recommend starting your search on Etsy. I'm biased because I'm an Etsy seller, but there really are tons of ladies on there making really creative, easily customizable shirts.

Pair yours with those athletic shorts, pop-over, belt bag, and sneakers and you're all set with a cute outfit for the day.

FAQ: Where can I get matching Mickey/Minnie ears for Disney World?

You can buy a wide range of "official" Mickey/Minnie ears from Disney, both on-site and online from the Disney Store. I got a few, less expensive, pairs for us from Etsy before our trip.

Disney World Stroller Accessories

Shopping *at* Disney World is fantastic, and you'll find tons of accessories that aren't available online. But there is one accessory you *must buy* in advance, if you are bringing your own stroller, or renting a nice one is the Disney stroller tag.

On our first visit with a child, rather than as a child, you can imagine my surprise when I parked my stroller, in the designated stroller parking, only to find it was gone upon my return! Disney employs stroller moving teams who, near large stroller parking zones, constantly shift strollers around so that they aren't blocking walkways, doorways etc. Even if you park in the designated stroller parking, your stroller may get moved. And ALL OF THE STROLLERS LOOK ALIKE. I'd recommend buying a tag for our stroller to make it easier to find, or at least tying a balloon onto it, or, ideally, both.

If your stroller doesn't already have a drinks holder (you probably do!), I'd be sure to get one before your trip. Pack it in your checked luggage so you don't have to carry it around on the plane once you gate check your stroller.

Fountain Square is one of the most vibrant Indianapolis cultural districts. With its heart (and eponymous fountain) at the intersection of Shelby Street, Virginia Street, and Prospect Street, Fountain Square has been an important part of the city from its earliest beginnings.

From residential farms to the commercial hub of the south side of Indianapolis in the mid-19th century, by the 1950's, the area was in decline. Such decline, in fact, that its fountain was actually removed and put displayed in a nearby park. As if things weren't bad enough, next the interstates came through (more on that later), and it wasn't until the 1990's that Fountain Square started to be seen as a potential diamond in the rough.

The city rallied 'round, and Fountain Square saw a surge in investment and became a popular spot for new restaurants to venture, somewhat off the beaten track. Today, Fountain Square today retains many of its old buildings, updated, and made functional (and funky).

FAQ: Where is Fountain Square?

The Fountain Square neighborhood is to the southeast of downtown Indianapolis, just on the other side of 70/65 from the center of the heart of the city.

FAQ: How do I get to Fountain Square?

Fountain Square is easily accessible from downtown Indianapolis, either by car or bike! Fountain Square is on the Indianapolis Cultural Trail, the city's 8-mile urban bike trail and pedestrian path, so I hope you'll consider renting a bike to head down for your visit.

FAQ: Can I take the Red Line to Fountain Square?

Yes! The IndyGo Red Line has several stops in the Fountain Square neighborhood.

FAQ: Can I walk to Fountain Square?

You can walk to Fountain Square from the "tourist center" of Indianapolis, but depending where you're coming from, it's a bit of a hike. In particular, if you're coming from the Convention Center/Lucas Oil area, it's not walkable. If you stay on the Cultural Trail from downtown, you shouldn't feel unsafe, but it might be too far, especially if you want to see all of Fountain Square once you get there.

FAQ: Is Fountain Square safe?

Yes! While the news likes flashy posts about police-involved public safety events "near" Fountain Square, the main drag is large and perfectly safe. I wouldn't wander aimlessly for blocks and blocks outside of the commercial district, but you'll be completely fine at any of the spots recommended here.

FAQ: What is Fletcher Place?

Ok, some of the places I'm going to discuss are technically in Fletcher place. More of a residential area, Fletcher Place is a favorite of young professionals and encompasses the area that we would broadly call "Fountain Square" that's closer to downtown Indy, before you cross the interstate into the 'heart' of Fountain Square.

Fun Restaurants in Fountain Square

Bluebeard

One of the closest Fountain Square restaurants to downtown Indianapolis, Bluebeard is an eccentric treasure, named after a book by Indianapolis native, Kurt Vonnegut. Since it opened in 2012, Bluebeard has constantly topped the lists of Indy's best restaurants, with good reason. Come for great cocktails, intricate dishes, and an astonishing typewriter collection.

Once touted as the best restaurant in Indianapolis, milktooth is a quirky blend of quirky cocktails and unique takes on the brunch basics. You'll see it on every list of "things to do in Indianapolis," where it belongs, though it is less of a phenom than it used to be. Get here early, grab a Bloody Mary, and expect to wait a bit. It's worth it to stop by before it re-brands!

La Margarita

Great Mexican food, and even better margaritas (obviously), La Margarita is a go-to for Mexican in downtown Indianapolis that's been in Fountain Square since before the area was cool (again). Check out the great patio to see all the happenings at one of the major intersections in Fountain Square. If you're looking for Mexican with a higher-end twist, head up to Livery on Mass Ave.

Red Lion Grog House

For pub classics, stop by Red Lion Grog House. In addition to go-to pub fare and an amazing British beer selection (harder to find than you might think), Red Lion's buffalo chicken wrap is to die for.

Specializing in "sourdough breads and pastries in the European tradition," Amelia's has now spread beyond its original Fletcher Place location and we can't get enough of their dough creations. Stop by, grab a pastry and a cup of coffee while you explore. Only outdoor seating is available.

Breweries and Distilleries

Chilly Water Brewing Company

For a fun ambiance, and some of the best outdoor seating in Fountain Square, Chilly Water Brewing Company was our favorite bike-able destination from where we lived on Mass Ave! The 'Fire on the Mountain' hummus and the Built to Last Pilsner is my go-to for a perfect Sunday afternoon.

Upland, Fountain Square

Upland, Fountain Square (JSB)

An ever-expanding export from the much hillier home of Indiana University, Bloomington, Upland Brewing has quickly made its name as a Hoosier classic. The beer is delicious, the bar fare is pretty standard, and the tenderloin is a must-have if you're an out-of-towner.

Hotel Tango

Indy is making its mark on the distillery scene with Hotel Tango, a home-grown classic. Drop by Hotel Tango for fun cocktails, a cozy interior, and a laid-back vibe.

To honor Travis’ military service, they name it based on the NATO phonetic alphabet —— Hotel for Hilary, Tango for Travis.

Unique Bars in Fountain Square

Maybe it's not surprising that there aren't many rooftop bars in Indianapolis. We aren't known for our great weather. But when the weather is good, we sure do enjoy it! So stop by Rooftop Garden, one Indianapolis's few rooftop bars! They have a few appetizers, but it's definitely a "bar," so make it a stop before continuing onto dinner!

The Inferno Room:
The Indianapolis Tiki Bar

Indianapolis may not be known for its Tiki scene, but it should be! The owners of world class The Inferno Room did an incredible amount of research (umm jealous!) to bring Tiki culture here to the heartland. The Inferno Room is a truly immersive experience, from blacked out windows, to rain showers, flaming drinks, and intricate skulls and masks. As the bartender for recommendations if you aren't familiar with these types of drinks, but you really can't go wrong. Make sure you get at least one cocktail that is on fire.

Entertainment Options in Fountain Square

Fountain Square has several fun entertainment options beyond its bars and restaurants.

Duckpin Bowling

Fountain Square is proudly home to the oldest duckpin bowling in Indianapolis, Atomic Bowl. Formerly a "summer" version of bowling (a winter sport), duckpin bowling is similar to its counterpart, but with a smaller ball and pins.

Visiting the restored, 1930's bowling alley, located in the heart of Fountain Square in the Fountain Square Theatre building, is a true treat. The Theatre started out as a 1500-seat Vaudeville theater, when it was built in 1928, and is now mainly a wedding venue (and home to, as we discussed the rooftop bar). Duckpin bowling is right at the top, and yes, they have a bar.

The Idle, Fountain Square

Fountain Square's decline of almost a century ago occurred as the area became largely separated from other areas of Indianapolis by the building of a number of interstates.

But, seeking to use this as a spark of innovation, the city has created The Idle, one of the most unique park ideas I've ever heard of. Here, you can sit and watch the traffic go by. Yup, that's it. Strangely, it is relaxing. The traffic noise starts to become a background buzz...is commuter traffic the Indianapolis ocean? Maybe.

If, like me, you're heading to the 'sunshine state,' but slightly horrified by watching the social media videos of the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train line stretching all the way to Ariel's doorstep over Christmas and New Year's, let me tell you, as a Disney off-season person, the best time to visit is undoubtedly February. No Spring Break crowds, no scorching sunshine, and you can actually book dining in the Magic Kingdom...anytime you want (yes, Cinderella's Castle is even available, if you book early!!)

I've been to Disney World...many times, and, of all the times of year, February is the perfect sweet spot for us. So I'll walk you through some frequently asked questions about off-season trips to Disney World, then good things about visiting Disney World in the off-season and, finally, a few things you'll want to keep in mind about visiting Disney World in the February off-season. When are the cheapest times to visit Disney World?
Late august and early February are traditionally two of the cheapest times to visit Disney World. Both are prime off-peak times, and they fall right after busy season, during the school year when there are no scheduled school breaks, and in fact kids have just returned to school and are busy settling in and giving each other colds and bugs :)

Is February considered off-season in Disney World?
Yes! With the exception of Presidents Day Weekend, February is 'prime' off-season in Disney World. It's after kids have gone back to school after Christmas, yet before people are ready to turn around and start heading out on another trip.

Is early February a good time to visit Disney World?
Yes! Early February is our personal favorite time to visit Disney World. Off-season vibes, nothing going on at home in the Midwest (our daughter isn't in actual school yet), and some much-needed Florida sunshine. Oh and did I mention beautiful weather?

What's the weather like at Disney World in February?
The weather is one of the main attractions that keeps us booking February Disney trips. Expect average high temperatures in early February in the low 70s, and average temperature lows in the low 50's. It's thankfully not hurricane season, so you can take that level of unpredictability out of the calculation.

Is it cold at Disney World in February?
It can be cold in Disney World in February. On our most recent trip (first week of February, 2026), it was unseasonably cold (lows in the low 20s, with a driving wind). That was, everyone assures me, incredibly unusual. It also didn't last our entire trip.

Can you swim at Disney World in February?
Generally, you can swim at Disney in February most days, especially if it's sunny. In the evenings in Central Florida in February, it might get a bit chilly, but with average highs in the mid-70s, swimming tends to be on the agenda for us. That said, if swimming is really important to you, I might delay 'til later in the month, and I'd avoid January. If you're used to Disney pools as a break from the scorching heat during summer vacation, this will be a departure, but I'm sure you'll still enjoy.

Are Disney Water Parks open in February?
Yes! Disney water parks are open in February, though in less demand without the extreme heat and summer crowds. According to PlanDisney, "[t]ypically, one water park is operating at a time while refurbishments are being performed on the other."

Do Disney World tickets cost less in the off-season?
The actual theme park tickets don't vary hugely in price depending on when you're visiting, so that's not where you'll pick up the savings on an off-season Disney vacation.

Are Lightning Lanes worth it in February?
When I booked our most recently early February trip, I wondered if we'd 'need' Lightning Lanes (ok, does one ever 'need' anything at Disney...but you get it), but, as we were traveling with a toddler, decided to spring for them. I felt that we very much got our money's worth out of the Lightning Lane Multipass and would recommend it. Yes, lines are shorter, but there are still lines, and with a two year old, we wanted to move as quickly as possible for the sake of all involved. Did I need Lightning Lane in Animal Kingdom in February? Not really.

When is the Epcot Food & Wine Festival?
The Epcot International Food and Wine Festival happens later in the year - August - November, generally. This is commonly confused with the Epcot International Festival of the Arts, which is mid-January- mid-February (in 2026 January 16-February 23). While it lends a festive atmosphere, and there are some food stall offerings that we enjoyed.

Are the Disney parks crowded during school breaks?
YES. MLK and Presidents' Day Weekend are both high-volume times in Disney World, even though the fall in the mist of the off-season. So REMEMBER if you are trying to visit during February to escape long lines, to avoid the school break of Presidents' Day weekend and the runDisney Princess Half Marathon Weekend (Feb 26-March 2, 2026).

Is Disney World less magical during the off season?
And let me say this emphatically: NO. Disney is every bit as magical....if not more magical, during the off-season. People are *extra* happy to enjoy smaller crowds and an easier trip. Cast Members continue to be absolutely on their A game, and the off-season shines with magical touches.

Why people love visiting Disney World in the February off-season

Fewer crowds
The #1, and deservedly so, reason to visit Disney during the February off-season is to escape peak season's swarms of people. Unlike at Spring Break, standby lines, even for popular rides, will often be in the 40 minute range. It's a great time to try new rides, experiences you've never managed to book for, and to have a generally more relaxing experiences. With shorter wait times than in peak season, you'll be able to pack more into your days.

Hotel availability
Demand for Disney is such that even the ability to book a very pricey hotel room is a privilege! In February off-season, you'll have a much broader selection of hotel rooms available, with better views, etc. Now don't get me wrong, the bungalows aren't up-for-grabs, but if you're used to traveling in peak season, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Restaurant bookings
Always wanted to try Cinderella's Castle? Now's the time to book it. Staying on-property, I get early access to dining reservation (60 days in advance of the first day of my hotel reservation) and 99% of the time slots for all of the high-demand Disney dining experiences were available.

Flexibility
You've got to be flexible throughout the day to make the most of your time in Disney and, conversely, enjoy yourself. Booking Lightning Lanes and moving around restaurant bookings is far easier in the off-season. We're able to secure a Lightning Lane booking for a specific time. I think you'll be surprised how easy it is to make changes in the app on the day of your visit to the parks.

Events like Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party and special Christmas events draw crowds to Disney World through the fall and the holidays. With the exception of the Epcot International Festival of the Arts and the runDisney Princess Half Marathon, there are few events during this time. If that is something that appeals to you, it's one of the things you're 'giving up' in exchange for the much lower crowd volume. Less time in line, no time at a fest.

Renovations
Due to the lower crowd volume, January and February are very popular times for Disney staff to do renovations at the hotels and the theme parks. These renovations could include simple things like painting, or more work that is more intrusive on your stay, like actual construction.

Pool closures
This deserves its own category. With the smaller crowds and cooler weather, January and February are common times for pool closures at the Disney resorts. If pool time is important to you, BE SURE to check and double check whether the pool at your property will be open. I have stayed at multiple on-property resorts with closed pools during February, including popular, high-demand pools like Beach Club. That said, I took a trip in January where it was 100% too cold during the entire visit to even use the pool, so it's obvious why they do this.

Ride closures
And, finally, for the reasons outlined above, early in the year off-season is also a popular time for ride closures and maintenance. The best example of this is the upgrades to the Frozen Ever After, which began January 26, 2026 and lasted a couple weeks.

So...is off-season Disney World in February "worth it"?

YES! I hope I've convinced you that off-season in general, and February specifically, is a wonderful time to visit the happiest place on earth. And I hope I've given you some food for thought as you plan your off-season visit to Walt Disney World. No matter which days you choose, I know you'll have a magical experience, as we always do. Wondering how many rides you can ride in Disney World with a 2 year old?

We had the most phenomenal trip to Disney last February with our 2 year-old daughter. Admittedly, I was *very* worried that she was too young (especially after repeatedly Googling "is 2 too young for Disney World" and getting told yes), but my husband and I are big Disney people, we knew we'd go back again later, so we figured why not take a risk. Also we needed to get out of the house.

I can confidently say that we had an incredible, magical time in Disney World with our toddler. I've been to Disney World many times, but this was actually my first time with a kiddo. Thankfully, I was familiar enough to know which rides she could do (more on that later), and now I'll share it with you! I think you'll be pleasantly surprised how many rides toddlers actually can do. Disney World is a theme park geared toward children, even small children, instead of a roller coaster hub that allows children. Now that I'm planning our trip with our three year old, I've been reflecting on the rides I enjoyed most last year and what I'm looking forward to with a slightly older child. So, let's dive right in - the best Disney rides for a two year old! I'll cover a few FAQs about Disney toddler travel, then get into my list of rides by theme park. These are just the rides I thought were the best for my daughter. Character meals, character meeting experiences, and shows were also all huge hits for her.

Frequently Asked Questions about taking a two year old to Disney World

Is Disney World worth it for a two year old?
Yes!!! Emphatically, you can have a magical trip to Disney World with a two year old. They can walk, eat food at restaurants (well, mac and cheese and chicken nuggets on repeat), and, most importantly, they are old enough (and young enough) to believe in the magic. My daughter was 2.5 when we went. If you have the ability to wait til a little later in the second year (2.5 was perfect), I might.

Is there enough to do in Disney World for a two year old?
Absolutely. From live shows, to gentle boat rides, character meals, princess meet-and-greets, hotels pools, to the Kilimanjaro safari, I promise, there is more than enough in Disney World to keep young children entertained.

Do rides in Disney World have height requirements?
Some rides in Disney World have height requirements. Many don't. You can sort rides by height requirement on the Disney website.

Can I ride a ride in Disney World if my child doesn't?
Yes, if you are traveling with two adults. If you want to ride a ride your toddler doesn't want to or can't ride, you can take advantage of the Rider Switch. Before entering the queue, tell the Cast Member that you'd like to Rider Switch. One adult will wait with the kid outside of the line while the other adult rides alone, then you'll switch places. The person who waited does not have to wait in the queue again. Key: this does NOT happen right as you're about to board the ride. There's no standing area immediately next to the place people are boarding boats, etc. Not all rides offer Rider Switch, so be sure to confirm that your ride does before planning this into your day. Rider Switch is a great option if you're bringing older kids and little kids who don't all have the same interests.

Do I need a ticket for a two year old in Disney World?
Nope! You do not need a park ticket for a two year old to come to Disney World.

Does a two year old need a Disney Dining plan?
Nope! You can just feed your two year old off of your plate, or order a kids meal for them and pay with cash. For more on that, check out The Ultimate Guide to Disney Dining with a Toddler.

What's the best Disney resort hotel to stay at with a toddler?
If you can swing it, I'd highly recommend staying on property. As far as which Disney on-property resort, again, if you can swing it, the hotels on the Monorail are really worth their weight in gold (and it'll cost a fair amount of your gold, don't worry). We stayed at The Polynesian on this last trip and will do so again in 35 days (not that I'm counting the minutes until my first Mai Tai). You can Monorail from The Poly (or The Grand Floridian or Contemporary Resort) to Magic Kingdom and Epcot. If you are an Epcot family (we tend to focus on Magic Kingdom), The Beach Club is walkable to Epcot and very family-focused, while still tasteful and high-end. The Monorail does not go to Animal Kingdom or Hollywood Studios, so no matter where you stay, you will be taking a different form of Disney transportation (or driving your car). The best part of access to easy Disney transportation (especially the Monorail) is being able to zip back to the hotel for nap time, and then right back to the parks in the afternoon. We just aren't stroller nappers, and frankly mom needed the break anyway.

Should I purchase Lightning Lane if I'm visiting with a toddler?
Yes. Lightning Lane can help make your day easier, when visiting Disney World with a toddler. We purchased the Lightning Lane Multi Pass for each day we were in the parks and really appreciated them. I would NOT recommend splurging for the Lightning Lane Premier Pass. The much more expensive Premier allows you a LL for each ride in a park, but JUST ONCE PER DAY. As toddlers like repetitive activities and cannot go on many rides, you likely will not get the full value for money out of the Premier Pass.

Are there any Disney Parks I should skip with a two year old?
We visited all 4 parks at Disney World with our toddler, who loved them all. I'd rank them: Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Animal Kingdom, Hollywood Studios.

Is Hollywood Studios worth visiting with a toddler?
Yes. The live shows were a huge hit and there are a couple rides they can do, not to mention character meetings and character dining. Though the Star Wars portion of Hollywood Studios is a main draw and generally not interesting to very young kids, it's absolutely worth seeing for adults (we largely just walked through and grabbed a drink).

Dumbo the Flying Elephant
The classic up-and-down and in-a-circle ride that entertained me circa 1993 continues to delight toddlers to this day. Dumbo the Flying Elephant offers a fun queue experience in 'the big tent,' a fast-moving line thanks to the addition of a second Dumbo ride next to the first, easy boarding, and the joy of being able to make your mom nauseous as your little toddler hands attack the joy stick.

The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
Combine a ride on The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh with lunch at Crystal Palace to meet that honey-loving bear! As it's on the track of the long-gone Mr Toad's Wild Ride, "the Pooh ride" is a little bumpier, faster, and darker than you might expect. But there's no height requirement and you'll see all of your favorite friends from the Hundred Acre Wood! Yeah. We rope drop-ed Pooh Bear. That's life with a toddler.

Journey of the Little Mermaid
Another absolute hit for my two year old in Magic Kingdom was Journey of the Little Mermaid, a newer, colorful, immersive dive under the sea with Ariel. Ride under the sea in a clam shell as you go through the story of the Little Mermaid, with animatronic actors.

FAQ: Will my two year old enjoy Enchanted Tales with Belle?
My three year old is beyond thrilled to visit Enchanted Tales with Belle, which is an 'experience,' not a ride, where actors and cast members tell the story of Belle. My two year old did not have the patience or attention span for it, though she LOVED meeting princesses at meet and greets and character dining.

Peter Pan's Flight
Fly out of the Darling family's nursery, over gleaming London, and off to Never Land in Peter Pan's Flight. Though 'toddlers these days' are less likely to be familiar with Peter Pan (my daughter hadn't seen it), it's a fun, classic, gentle ride that toddlers will enjoy.

"it's a small world"
Since 1964, this height requirement-free gentle boat ride delight has entertained millions of kids from around the world. There's no better, more popular, more classic, or more toddler-friendly ride than "it's a small world." We rode "small world" 3 times on our 4-day trip and my daughter enjoyed every minute of it. You can use a Lightning Lane if you want, lines aren't generally that bad if you don't, boarding the boats is easy, no belts or restraints required, and the scenery changes quickly to entertain busy kiddos.

FAQ: Is Haunted Mansion too scary for a toddler?
Yes. Though Haunted Mansion's track/physical movements would be OK for a toddler (and there's no height requirement), I would avoid Haunted Mansion on a Disney trip with a toddler. You could use Rider Switch, or just allow older kids or mom/dad to go ride it while you do something near by, like Small World or Peter Pan. Haunted Mansion is a dark ride, both in low lighting and in content, and my daughter was scared anytime the lights went down, even in Journey into Imagination with Figment.

FAQ: Is Pirates of the Caribbean too scary for a toddler?
I wouldn't say it was my daughter's favorite ride, but she liked being on the boat and I sort of distracted her from the spicier bits. If mom and dad want to ride Pirates, I'd say go for it. It's a slow boat ride with a small drop, but it's definitely not going to be on your kiddo is clamoring to hit again.

FAQ: Can my toddler ride Tiana's Bayou Adventure?
Sadly, no. Tiana's Bayou Adventure (the reimagined Splash Mountain) a 40 inch height minimum, with a fifty-foot drop. My daughter was sad about this, but we made up for it by meeting Tiana at Akershus.

Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room
As we are Disney nerds and were staying at The Polynesian, we took a break from the Florida sun to see the show at the Tiki Room! Much like another favorite of mine, Carousel of Progress, Tiki Room is a Disney staple that feels a bit dated. My daughter started getting pretty wiggly by the end of the 15 minute show, but added a new word to her vocabulary: tiki. It's fun and a good excuse to sit down for a bit on that side of Magic Kingdom which has slightly fewer kid rides.

The Magic Carpets of Aladdin
If your toddler enjoyed Dumbo, they'll also enjoy The Magic Carpets of Aladdin, which is the same ride, but with the bright colors of magic carpets!

Living with the Land
A wonderful slow boat ride, Living with the Land teaches kids (and adults) about farming techniques and our earth. It's not terribly exciting, but it's a peaceful moment in a busy day. Make a reservation at Garden Grill Restaurant to eat the food you've seen grown! Oh and meet Chip 'n' Dale, obviously.

The Seas with Nemo and Friends
The Seas with Nemo and Friends tells the story of Nemo's adventure from Finding Nemo - and you can see real fish in the nearby aquarium!

Journey of Water, inspired by Moana
Journey of Water isn't a 'ride,' more of a walking 'experience,' not far from the aforementioned rides (before you get into the countries). But if you have a little Moana fan with you, they'll enjoy it!

Remy's Ratatouille Adventure
Disney very recently made the excellent decision to remove the 3D element of Remy's Ratatouille Adventure, which had been a deterrent for many toddler parents to take their kids too young to keep their glasses on on the ride! We will absolutely be riding on this upcoming trip! There's plenty to see to keep them entertained on the ride, even if your toddler hasn't seen the movie.

Frozen Ever After
The highlight of any trip to Epcot for a little one, Frozen Ever After is a must-see for any and everyone. I can't wait to see the new animatronics, if it's reopened in time for our trip after its refurbishment.

Gran Fiesta Tour
Did you know there's a slow boat ride in the Mexico Pavilion? Gran Fiesta Tour tells the story of three bird friends.

Animal Kingdom

Kilimanjaro Safaris
A highlight of our time in Disney was Kilimanjaro Safaris. Ride in an incredible, large, safari vehicle to get up-close-and-personal with Disney's incredible safari animals. You'll see lions, tigers, elephants and zebras, all while learning interesting facts. Hold onto those kiddos on the bumpy roads, but it's absolutely toddler appropriate. That said, if you've got a real wild child on your hands, I'd wait 'til they're 3. The "expedition" takes about 18 minutes once you're out there.

Na'vi River Journey
There are two Avatar-based rides in Animal Kingdom. Na'vi River Journey features impressive animatronics and beautiful scenery. My daughter didn't know any of the characters, but we enjoyed it and she was amused by the boat element and the colorful lights.

Hollywood Studios

Hollywood Studios experiences for toddlers are more about the live shows (and you can use Lightning Lanes for them), including Frozen Sing-Along Celebration, The Little Mermaid- A Musical Adventure, and Beauty and the Beast, Live on Stage - all toddler favorites.

Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway
Visit Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway, one of the few non-height-restricted rides in Hollywood Studios, for a gentle train ride feature classic animated Mickey and Minnie.

Planning a family road trip from Indianapolis?

I am always proud to say I've lived in the Hoosier State, with the exception of a brief East Coast foray for college, for nearly 30 years. And, between my time in Indiana as a kid, young adult, married couple always after the best weekend getaways, and now a parent of a young toddler daughter, I think I've visited most of the remotely drivable destinations from Indianapolis, both inside the state of Indiana and beyond!

Holland, Michigan. Road Trips Within a 5 Hour Drive of Indianapolis, Indiana

Holland, Michigan (SPC)

From the shores of Lake Michigan, to the bright lights of Chicago (my first and favorite 'big city'), to quaint college towns, and major historic sites, there's more to the Midwest than meets the eye, if you're planning a road trip from Indianapolis. Midwesterners are notorious road warriors, but even we have our limits, especially for day trips or quick weekend getaways. So I've set the driving limit at a 5 hour drive from Indianapolis. A 5 hour driving is easily doable for a long weekend, and allows us to really broaden our horizons to create the full list. I've included all sorts of ideas in my high-level to-dos in each destination, from free activities, to museums, outdoor fun and areas of natural beauty, interactive exhibits, science activities, educational events, and lots of casual breweries and tastings for mom and dad. So pack up the entire family, and let's discover some fun places within a five hour drive of Indianapolis!

{2026} 20 Easy, Quick Family Road Trips Within 5 Hours of Indianapolis

State and National Parks

Let's kick things off with some of the best outdoor activities near Indianapolis. Indiana is very proud to be home to many state parks and one (new) national park! Here are a few of our favorites, any of which makes an easy drive from Indianapolis for a day trip or quick weekend.

Brown County State Park

Brown County State Park (SPC)

Just an hour south of Indianapolis, Brown County State Park, our "Little Smokies," is known throughout the state as Indiana's autumn leaf peeping destination. Stop by nearby Nashville, Indiana for quaint, Southern Indiana charm. Expect crowds in September and especially October! Brown County is Indiana's largest park, with over 20 miles of winding roads, 70 miles of horse trails, and encompassing 16,000 acres. Stay at the Abe Martin Lodge & Cabins within the park and, if you're feeling fit and looking for some amazing views, climb the 90 foot Fire Tower.

Turkey Run State Park & Shades State Park

One of our favorite things to do on a Saturday in early summer is drive an hour west of Indianapolis to Indiana's second-oldest state park, Turkey Run and its neighbor, Shades State Park, for a quick canoe trip. We park at Sugar Valley Canoe, they load us up in a van and drop us off in our canoes! After a couple hours on the river, we reach the pick-up zone, load up, and it's back to Indy we go! There are also two historic sites on the property, the Lusk Home and Mill Site and the Richard Lieber Log Cabin.

Looking to stay longer? Check into the Turkey Run Inn, which was built in 1919 (you'll want to book well in advance!)

Mounds State Park

On the trend of an hour, head about an hour north of Indianapolis to Mounds State Park, in Anderson, easily accessible from I-69. Here you'll find 10 "mounds" (earthen structures) built by some of the first people to inhabit the area, the Adena-Hopewell. Historians believe that "The Great Mound" was built around 160 A.D. The understanding is that the Adena-Hopewell used the mounds as ceremonial structures for religious observances, and potentially to view the stars and other important planetary events. Interestingly, the park is in the path of the totality of the 2024 solar eclipse. Mounds State Park also has a number of marked walking trails.

Indiana Dunes National Park

Indiana is very proud to have added a National Park to our list of credentials, with the Indiana Dunes National Park earning the designation in 2019. I like to think Leslie Knope had a hand in this.

Indiana Dunes National Park's 15,000 acres encompass about 20 miles of Lake Michigan shoreline. With 50 miles of trails and views for days, the Indiana dunes are absolutely worth visiting, especially if you're not interested in driving all the way up to Northern Michigan. Don't forget that you need a National Parks Standard Entrance Pass to enjoy the dunes.

Pokagon State Park

Looking for winter fun in Indiana without having to drive too far? Consider visiting Pokagon State Park, also off of I-69, but a little farther north, near Angola (almost to Michigan). Pokagon is known for its Pokagon State Park Toboggan Run, and its family-friendly, but mildly terrifying, runs are a right of passage of young Hoosiers. The run open November 24, 2023 and operates through February 25, 2024. Looking to stay a little longer? Check into the Potawatomi Inn & Cabins.

Small Towns

The Midwest is proud to be home to many charming small towns, as I'm continually discovering the longer I live here and get out and explore! I've rounded up a few of my favorite Indiana small towns that make easy trips from Indianapolis.

Carmel, Indiana

I debated putting Carmel on this list, but it's my adopted hometown and, darn it, I like it. Since I moved here nearly 30 years ago, Carmel has changed very much for the better and is nearly unrecognizable. Let's just say it wouldn't have made this list when we first showed up! From the world-class performing arts at the Center for the Performing Arts (including the Palladium), great dining at Anthony's Chophouse and divvy, local breweries, everything you need for home decor and renovation at the Indiana Design Center, to the genuinely luxury, 'shop local' shopping at the Carmel City Center (Addendum is my personal favorite gift store in Indy), Carmel is worth a visit. Looking to stay longer? Check into The Hotel Carmichael, a Marriott Autograph hotel that opened in 2020. Be sure to grab a drink and take in the live music at Feinstein's.

Bloomington, Indiana

Arguably the best college town in the country, Bloomington, Indiana is the ideal mix of traditional limestone architecture, live music venues, quirky restaurants, cute shopping, a charming college main street, and, of course, some of the nation's most enthusiastic basketball fans. And it's a surprisingly short drive from Indianapolis! Grab a delicious dinner at Farm or Malibu Grill, visit the original (now massive) Upland location. Stay at the new Graduate Bloomington, or at my personal favorite the Indiana Memorial Union's Biddle Hotel (on campus). And if you can snag tickets, take in the fan frenzy of an IU Hoosiers basketball game.

Columbus, Indiana

Not too far from Bloomington is the architecturally significant, yet charmingly small, Southern Indiana town of Columbus, Indiana. I visited the first time from Bloomington as a birthday surprise during law school and was so pleasantly surprised at this Southern Indiana gem! Grab an incredible ice cream sundae at the 120+ year old Zaharakos (a great way to keep younger children entertained...), tour the famed midcentury modern marvel Miller House, designed by Finnish-American architect Eero Saarinen (and now operated by Newfields in Indianapolis), or even take a Columbus walking tour, Want to stay longer? Check into the Inn at Irwin Gardens Bed & Breakfast.

Kalamazoo, Michigan

I first visited Kalamazoo as an easy 'halfway' point between Indianapolis and our yearly summer trips to Northern Michigan. In addition to having an undeniably awesome name, Kalamazoo is also home to incredible local beer, Bell's, which you can sample at Bell's Eccentric Cafe. If you're only in the area for a short while, the Eccentric Cafe is worth a stop. Check out the thriving vintage clothing scene, and take the kids to Air Zoo, the aerospace and science 'experience.' A visit to Kalamazoo can be easily combined with a trip to Grand Rapids.

Ann Arbor, Michigan

Wrapping up our small towns section, Ann Arbor, another of the Midwest's great college towns (don't let Bloomington hear me saying that!), offers one of the great college 'main street's in the U.S. Explore the University of Michigan, and if you enjoyed Bloomington's version, stay at Graduate Ann Arbor!

Big Cities

For a complete change of pace, my next grouping of easy, family-friendly road trip destinations less than 5 hours from Indianapolis are those bigger cities. We don't have many, here in the Midwest, but the ones we do have are some of the greats. To me, the perfect city vacation is fast, short, and reasonable affordable, and you'll be able to satisfy all of those goals in either destination described below.

Chicago, Illinois

Navy Pier & the John Hancock Center (it's not called that anymore)

It goes without saying that Chicago is a #1 vacation destination for many Hoosiers, myself included. The Windy City offers all of the big city amenities of NYC, blended with Midwest friendliness, lower prices, and far fewer tourists. Honestly, every time I visit Chicago I'm surprised there aren't more people visiting. Haven't they heard!? Whether it's your first trip to Chicago, or your next in a long history of trips up I-65, I'd suggest that you use your time to: learn all about Chicago's ever-evolving skyline on an architectural boat tour, take the kids to the Shedd Aquarium, have a classy morning at the Art Institute of Chicago, take in the amazing shopping experiences on Michigan Avenue (there are plenty of 'touristy' spots to keep non-shoppers entertained), and experience "real Chicago" with a stay at The Drake (my favorite historic Chicago hotel is now surprisingly affordable).

Detroit, Michigan

Heading northeast this time, let's discover our other neighbor to the north (no, not Canada...quite). I grew up traipsing up and down I-69 to visit family in Detroit, and I wouldn't have had it any other way, The Motor City is an often under-appreciate neighbor for Hoosiers, and I'd strongly encourage you to consider a trip.

Fun, historic, and vibrant, Detroit has a lot to offer, from its sprawling historical part at The Henry Ford (which includes Greenfield Village, the museum, and the Ford Rouge Plant), discovering the Detroit Riverfront, to taking in a Tiger's game and indulging in some excellent cuisine. Don't forget the Detroit Institute of Arts. My Grandmother trained for two years to become a volunteer docent at the "DIA" when I was a kid - and you bet I paid attention on those tours! Even the Detroit suburbs are worth exploring. I'm particularly fond of Birmingham and Rochester for walkable destinations with plenty to keep you occupied, including some of the best boutique shopping around.

Family-Friendly Destinations

Cincinnati, Ohio

Just under two hours from Indianapolis, Cincinnati is a very manageable weekend trip, or even a day trip (I've done both, multiple times!) Spend an afternoon at the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden, visiting their adorable young hippo family, including the famous Fiona, stop by the Cincinnati Art Museum, learn about an important and little-known aspect of the region at the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center, and take in a Cincinnati Reds game (and grab a drink beforehand at one of the many, many nearby party zones). Hope over to the Kentucky side of the Ohio River to visit Newport, likely the ultimate family-friendly destination on this list, where you'll find the Newport Aquarium and a Hofbrauhaus, along with just about any other family activity you can imagine.

St. Louis, Missouri

Go West, Hoosiers! About a four hour drive from Indianapolis, a family trip to St. Louis is worth the drive. Tour the Anheuser-Busch factory with the Brewery Experience (a highlight for me. Obviously you can see some Clydesdales!), check out the Saint Louis Art Museum (located on a stunning campus, in the middle of a massive park in the middle of the city), and, of course, take the scary pod elevators up into The Gateway Arch to get the finest views of the Mississippi River and beyond. Be sure to check out all that Grant's Farm has to offer (yes, it was a former home of President Ulysses Grant). There's a lot more than free beer, but yes, there's also free beer and we shouldn't downplay the allure of that!

Grand Rapids, Michigan

Grand Rapids, Michigan (SPC)

Now the largest city in Michigan, Grand Rapids hasn't lost any of its Midwestern charm as it has grown. Stop by the hometown of United States President Gerald Ford, visit the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library & Museum, sample some local beers (I like Grand Rapids Brewing Co. for drinks and dinner), and check out the Grand Rapids Children's Museum! I love the Amway Grand Plaza for lodging - a classic, historic hotel right on the river, and within easy walking distance to most of what you'll want to see - what more could you want? Oh and it's pretty affordable. Perfection. Though Grand Rapids isn't on Lake Michigan directly, you aren't too far if you'd like to get in some beach time while you're up there!

Beach Destinations

For whatever reason, the Midwest isn't generally known for its beaches, but I'd argue that we can change that! I actually had a poster of the Sleeping Bear Dunes on my wall in college and I loved telling people about all of the natural beauty "Up North!" While it is a little harder to find water as a weekend trip from Indianapolis (I'm obviously a Northern Michigan loyalist, but if you're going to drive that distance, you'll probably want to stay a little while), I do have a few suggestions a little closer to home, if you're looking for a quick, family beach weekend!

Southwest Michigan

Benton Harbor, Michigan. Road Trips Close to Indianapolis.

The shores of Lake Michigan are home to a number of charming, small beach towns, just over the Michigan border! Consider St. Joseph, Benton Harbor, Saugatuk, all of which are three to four hours' drive from Indy. The nicest hotel I've found in the area is The Harbor Grand in New Buffalo, if you're feeling fancy or planning a romantic couples' getaway! The further north you go, the more you'll notice the decrease in humidity and increase in "lake vibes."

Lake Wawasee

A little closer to home, and a little more difficult to get to, Lake Wawasee has been Indianapolis residents' lake home destination for over a century. While there's no hotel on Lake Wawasee, you can easily rent houses through AirBnb for your perfect lake weekend, just about a 3 hours drive from Indianapolis!

Historic Road Trips

French Lick, Indiana

The charming Indiana French Lick Resort is actually home to two historic resorts, French Lick Resort and West Baden Springs Hotel. French Lick Resort is the more affordable, larger, and more family-friendly of the two, with West Baden having a nicer restaurant and a "four star" rating. Family trip? French Lick. Couples weekend? West Baden. No matter which hotel you choose, you'll have access to the amenities provided on-site, from the spa, Pete Dye golf course, horseback riding, and, naturally, the casino (if that's your thing. It's not mine!)

There has actually been a hotel in French Lick since 1845, when tourists started visiting to "take the waters," from the natural sulphur springs, which you can still smell, should you wish. The hotel now offers a behind the scenes tour, which I'm absolutely going to take next time we visit.

New Harmony, Indiana

Going in roughly the opposite direction, a visit to New Harmony is much heavier on the history and much lower on the spa/golf course/casino aspects. About three hours south of Indianapolis, on the Wabash River, sits New Harmony, formerly home to The Harmony Society, an early 19th century Utopian Society that you almost certainly learned about in 4th grade Indiana history class. They established a co-ed public school system and opened a public library, both of which were cutting edge in their day. Many of the town's oldest buildings have been restored and are available to visit.

Springfield, Illinois

Springfield, Illinois is one of the furthest destinations on this list, and it is a solid five hour drive from Indianapolis. To be honest, it's not a very interesting drive, either, as you'll sort of feel like you're on a cornfield treadmill. But, you can't beat Springfield if you're an Abraham Lincoln buff! Illinois's capital city is home to the Abraham Lincoln National Heritage Area, the center of which are the Lincoln Home National Historic Site, Lincoln's last home before he left Illinois for the White House, the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum, and Lincoln's Tomb. For a history buff, this is the ultimate three day weekend. For the non history buff, there's frankly not that much else to do.

Nightlife, Drinks, & Live Music

Our final category of road trips within five hours of Indianapolis takes us to my nightlife section, which focuses on the best places to see live music and experience some evening relaxation. But, don't worry, there's plenty for the family to keep everybody entertained.

Nashville, Tennessee

Nashville (SPC)

Nashville is a national destination for live music and for its wonderful food scene. About five hours nearly directly south of Indianapolis, Nashville is a great place to visit if you're looking for an easy weekend trip from Indianapolis. Any night of the week, stroll up aptly named Broadway Street and pop in and out of almost any bar to hear the best live music the country scene has to offer. It does get a little rowdy, but it's perfectly family friendly and I never felt unsafe, even at night. Fill your days with a trip to Andrew Jackson's very well-preserved estate, The Hermitage, a visit to Nashville's surprisingly interesting Parthenon replica, Vanderbilt University, and, of course, the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Louisville, Kentucky

Last, but certainly not least, is Louisville, Kentucky, only about two hours south of Indianapolis, but somehow seemingly worlds away. Downtown Louisville is home to yet another amazing nightlife scene, with its "Fourth Street" area teeming with bachelorette parties. As with Nashville, there's more than enough to keep you occupied during the day. We all know I'm a wine girl, but I've enjoyed a few Bourbon tastings in Louisville - and there are Bourbon tasting rooms downtown, so you don't have to load up the whole family and traipse all around the Bourbon Trail. We had a great time at the Evan Williams Experience.

Walkable, in the middle of downtown Louisville is the Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory, where you can watch the bats be mad, and learn more about baseball bats than you really knew there was to know. I promise you'll leave the tour desperate to be out at the diamond.

And finally, one of the best places to visit in all of Kentucky is Churchill Downs, and it's a relaxing visit when it's not Derby day! Take a tour, and watch a bit of whatever race is going on the day of your visit. It's no Indianapolis Motor Speedway, but it sure is cool. Need a hotel in Louisville? We've loved the historic Seelbach Hilton. Affordable, centrally located, and still oozing 1920's glamour, the Seelbach was frequented by F. Scott Fitzgerald and the inspiration for Jay Gatsby, George Remus.
