Need a Christmas gift for a new parent?
With the recent addition to our family, I've gotten a lot of requests for a round-up of Christmas gift ideas for new parents. I started doing Christmas gift guides with Christmas Gift Ideas for Grown Children, and as time's gone on, I've added other guides for additional "hard to buy for groups."
New parents? Apparently we're hard to buy for. We have bought and been given tons and tons of products, but we also have ever-changing needs. Additionally, I'm sure I speak not only for myself when I say that we're struggling to relocate our own non-baby identities, after baby. So while many gifts for new parents as certainly going to be baby-focused, depending on the parent in question, it might be worth going for a non-baby-related item. Of course, these items don't have to be for Christmas, but with the holiday season upon us, I've sprinkled in a few Christmas-specific ideas. Non-Baby Gifts for New Parents
While we always enjoy gifts for our little one, as a new parent it is nice to get gifts that are truly for us, as adult humans (which we apparently still are?!)
Easy reading
One of my favorite recent gifts is a Kindle Paperwhite. I can use it one-handed while doing baby-related tasks, and take it to be with me during my rare free moments.
Family entertainment
With a much higher than usual amount of time spent in the house, adding to the family's streaming services will be much appreciated.
Back on the bottle
After taking a break from booze for essentially a year, this Mom for one would appreciate all things wine-related. I'm particularly partial to stemless wine glasses after an unfortunate incident the first time I tried to sit down with a normal wine glass, while suffering from serious newborn brain.
Gift Cards for New ParentsTake something off the to-do list with a laundry serviceUpgrade their diaper game
Who knew such small people could generate *so much laundry*? Consider a Poplin gift card! They'll do laundry for $1/pound.
As I learned quickly when we had our baby, not all diapers are created equal. And, having diapers delivered to your house regularly can save new parents a lot of hassle. Dyper offers environmentally friendly diapers, shipped straight to the parents' door. Can't ask for more than that!
A night on the town
New parents need time to connect and re-find each other after baby! How about a restaurant gift certificate for somewhere nice, and babysitting services provided? Can't ask for more than that!
Housekeeping gift card
Keeping up with baby and the household chores is overwhelming. What new parent wouldn't love a gift card for house cleaning services?
Self-Care
Manicure, pedicure, couple's massage- you can't go wrong!
Wardrobe updates
I know I was more than ready for some new clothes post-baby. Rather than picking them out for her (risky!), why not fund mom's shopping spree?
Unique Gifts for New ParentsMeal subscription service
Blue Apron has been a *game changer* for us in the months after baby arrived. Their "Heat and Eat" and "Ready to Cook" meals are delicious, nutritious, and take just the right amount of our precious time (not much).
Gifts for New Parents Who Have Everything
Sometimes, the greatest gift won't be about easing the financial burden on the new parents. Instead, pick something thoughtful that the parents can either use now or keep as a great momento of this special time in their lives.
Sentimental Gifts for New ParentsChristmas Ornament
No family Christmas tree is complete without a (tasteful) ornament commemorating baby's first Christmas!
Foot moldEngraved rattleShutterfly book
The Christmas after we got married, my sister-in-law made us a lovely scrapbook of wedding memories on Shutterfly. Why not compile pictures of baby's special moments so far, and save the parents countless hours!?
