Wondering if sailing Disney Concierge is worth the cost?

Concierge guests are the first group to board the ship!

It's been just over a month since we returned from our incredible 5-night Disney cruise on the Disney Fantasy. My husband is an experienced 'cruiser,' and we thought we'd take our family's love of all things Disney on the high seas to squeeze in another trip between our Disney World vacations.

​To celebrate an important milestone, we thought we'd splurge for a one-in-a-lifetime, Concierge-level stateroom, in part because we were going at a slightly more affordable time of year, and on an older ship, and for the increased room size and early access to services while onboard.

What Is Concierge on Disney Cruise Line?

The Concierge Lounge on The Disney Fantasy

Concierge is the highest-level of service (and largest rooms, in a specific area) on a Disney cruise. Concierge-level guests get special concierge services, early access to things, dedicated spaces (including a sun deck with a hot tub), free drinks during certain times, and a lounge staffed with dedicated concierge hosts who can book services for you or attend to guest service needs.

Concierge Perks Included With Your Cruise Fare

Priority Services
While the exact perks can vary slightly by ship, these were the benefits we enjoyed during our sailing on the Disney Fantasy.

• Early access to onboard shows, and free popcorn
• Early check-in (whenever you like)
• First people to board the ship (my daughter was the first person to hug Captain Mickey)
• Disembarkation and embarkation whenever you like (don't have to book a time in advance), including skipping to the front of long lines
• During shore excursions, concierge guests also get special privileges. For example, only concierge guests even have the option to book the private cabanas.

​Concierge Sun Deck Access
Given it isn't the main family pool and only contains a sun deck and hot tub, I wasn't sure whether I'd make much use of the sun deck. But, I ended up really enjoying the sun deck. The main pools are, unsurprisingly, crowded, and during my daughter's nap time, either my husband or I would usually use the concierge sun deck. They also have fridges stocked with waters and soda, so it was very relaxing (you could also take a bar drink up there, if you wish).

Our Disney Fantasy Concierge One-Bedroom Suite

The Layout
Our stateroom offered a small entrance hall, a full bathroom, a tv watching area, dining table, and bedroom with folding doors. Through the bedroom was another full bathroom (this one with a tub), and, the other direction, of course, a beautiful balcony.

The Living Room
Having a pull-out sofa (also a pullout bed) and full tv-watching zone was great for my daughter. She had her own space to sleep, and we could enjoy our evening after she went to bed.

The Bedroom
We had a king-sized bed, small vanity, and two small nightstands in our bedroom. We did bring portable fans, which were really nice, as it was pretty stuffy.

The Bathrooms
Having two full bathrooms on a cruise ship was truly a luxury and, honestly, with only 3 of us, we really didn't need it.

The Balcony
Our balcony was lovely - and slightly larger than the standard (though nothing wild).

Storage and Closet Space
The storage in our concierge suite was definitely the most impressive part. We felt 100% comfortable, with all of our possessions in the closets, suitcases under the bed, and space for everything we brought (and purchased).

What Surprised Me Most about our Concierge Experience

A few things about Concierge turned out to be completely different from what I expected—some in a wonderful way, and a couple that genuinely surprised me.

The attention our stateroom hosts gave our room
I knew we'd have exceptional service, but I didn't expect our stateroom to be fully refreshed twice each day. Every time we returned, the room looked immaculate, towels were replaced, the bed was turned down in the evening, and everything felt reset. It was one of those little luxuries that quickly became something we looked forward to. The towel art was NEXT LEVEL. Unlike a 'normal' hotel experience, our stateroom hosts never once missed a window we were out to clean our room. Very impressive.

The number (and professionalism) of the Concierge staff
I expected there to be someone staffing the Concierge Lounge, but I didn't expect such a large team. Every Cast Member was incredibly polished, friendly, and proactive. Whether we had a question about food offerings in the Lounge, needed help with a reservation, or simply wanted a recommendation, someone was always available, and great with kiddos.

The quality of the food in the Concierge Lounge
I assumed the lounge would offer light snacks and a lot of bananas/bags of chips, but the food was much more substantial than I expected. Throughout the day there were beautifully presented snacks, desserts, and appetizers that felt noticeably elevated from what I had imagined.

Alcohol is complimentary in the Concierge Lounge—but only during the evening
This wasn't a complaint at all, but it did surprise me. Complimentary alcoholic beverages are available during the evening happy hour, rather than throughout the day. Personally, I actually preferred this approach to a free-flowing open bar. Disney cruises are very family-oriented, and limiting complimentary alcohol to the evening helped keep that atmosphere intact while still giving adults a nice perk after a long day of parenting.

Traveling Concierge with a toddler
Unlike most 'upscale' travel experiences, where children are often, implicitly or explicitly, excluded, obviously our toddler was incredibly welcomed and she hugely enjoyed her concierge experience (we've spoiled her for life). The Concierge staff were great with her, the size of the room was a HUGE bonus, and the ease of access/early boarding etc. was worth its metaphorical weight in gold.

Concierge doesn't mean exclusive access to everything
One thing that surprised me was that Concierge guests don't receive reserved viewing areas for every onboard event. We had wonderful reserved seating for the Frozen stage show, but for deck parties like "Let's Set Sail" and Pirate Night, we watched alongside everyone else (and they are a bit crowded). I actually think reserved viewing for those events would be a fantastic addition to the offerings of the Concierge experience.

Concierge Service Throughout the Cruise

Dining Reservations
I can't opine on this, as we just ate at our Rotational dining location during this cruise, but I am told (and saw them doing it) that the Concierge Cast Members will help you with dining reservations, if you choose to eat at the restaurants that require reservations.

Activity Reservations
We actually called the dedicated Concierge line to make a reservation for The Royal Gathering, before the sign-up deadline had opened to the rest of the ship.

Guest Services
Rather than going down to Guest Services, you can use the Concierge desk for what you would do at Guest Services downstairs. They're lovely. So professional. They even have sea sickness tablets.

Who Should Consider Concierge

Kid-friendly luxury travelers, people who will take advantage of auxiliary benefits, like cabana rental.

...and who can probably skip it
As I said, we sailed during a low-demand time of year, on one of the older ships. If you're going to break the bank doing this, go into debt, or not be able to take trips in the future because of it, I'd pass on spending the extra money. It's 5 days. You'll have a wonderful time no matter which stateroom you reserve. Mickey never lets you down!

What Concierge Did Not Change

One of the many things I love about Disney is how they manage luxury accommodations. Whether you're in the Fantasy Tower Suite (a girl can dream), or one of the many lovely standard staterooms, Disney doesn't create a separate 'class' of guests. Many parts of this experience were the same as they'd have been if we had not been in a Concierge-level room.

Rotational Dining
Concierge-level guests still rotate through the same rotational dining as other guests, and our waiter and staff followed us, like everyone else. There was no noticeable change here.
Poolside/water slide experienceOur access to the public pool was the same as everyone else's. We did have our private sun deck, but it only had a hot tub, and obviously no slide, which wasn't going to fly for our toddler!

Entertainment and Shows
For example, we didn't get special access at the Let's Set Sail party, like we did to the Frozen show (that would have been a nice perk, as those were fairly crowded and a bit stifling).

That said, only concierge-level guests have the opportunity to rent cabanas. We chatted with a couple, who rented one each day, saying that this was a huge motivation for them to opt for a Concierge room.

Frequently Asked Questions About Disney Cruise Concierge

Is Concierge Worth It on a Disney Cruise?
​It depends on your budget, the cost of the concierge voyage for that specific trip (it varies HUGELY based on Disney Cruise Line ship), your goals, and the frequency of travel. For us, the concierge booking was about double the cost of the non-concierge room we were considering. The added perks made it worth it for us.

Does Concierge Include Alcohol?
Yes, to some extent. The Concierge Lounge serves free alcoholic beverages in a 'happy hour' from 5-10 PM every night. You are free to take the drinks with you throughout the ship, or to dinner. But, if you order a drink at dinner from your server, or at any of the other bars throughout the ship, there will be the usual charge.

Does Concierge Have a Private Pool?
The Concierge area has a sun deck with a hot tub, but no full pool. Children are welcome on the sun deck, but it is fairly quiet/I didn't bring my daughter there.

Is Concierge Worth It for Families With Young Children?
Absolutely. Unlike a lot of luxury perks that are really for adults, Disney's luxury benefits are also for children. We hugely enjoyed spending time in the Concierge Lounge with my daughter, and the ease of every element from transportation to boarding and booking made our trip so much easier.

Does Concierge Help With Reservations?
Yes! The Cast Members in the Concierge Lounge (or over the phone in advance of your sailing) can help you with any reservations you need during your time on the ship, including, sometimes, in advance of when the bookings open up to other passengers. 

Is the Concierge Lounge Open All Day?
Yes. The Concierge lounges are generally open from 7 AM to 10 PM each day. They are staffed with cast members who provide food, can answer questions/make reservations, serve drinks, etc. Drinks are free in the lounges from 5-10 PM only. Many guests take the drinks with them to dinner, though we just bought ours at dinner.

Can Concierge Guests Board Earlier?
Yes. We were some of the first people to board our ship, and the first to hug Captain Mickey! Concierge guests can board when they arrive and do not need to schedule a time. Our stateroom was promised by 12:30, and we ate a delicious lunch while we waited for it to be ready (with free alcohol!)

Is the Concierge Lounge nice on Disney Fantasy?
The Concierge Lounge on the Fantasy, one of the oldest Disney ships in the fleet, was recently renovated and is stunning. It has a Hercules theme, which we adored, and a beautiful model of the ship.

What Is the Best Concierge Stateroom on Disney Fantasy?
We had the absolute pleasure of staying in Stateroom 12526, which is a one-bedroom, with two full bathrooms. Absolutely stunning. The "nicest" room on the Disney Fantasy is the Fantasy Tower Suite, which appeared unoccupied during our voyage.

Would we book concierge again...?

Yes. Absolutely. We are spoiled forever. The staff was incredible, the room was stunning, and I think my favorite perk was the streamlined boarding/disembarking process for Concierge guests.

So...is Disney Cruise Concierge "worth it...?"

​Yes, to us, Disney Concierge was worth it. True-to-form, Disney service is incredible, and the elevated concierge service is exquisite. The ease with boarding/disembarking and scheduling were truly worth it to me alone, but the size of the stateroom and the access to the Lounge made for a truly unforgettable trip. At the end of the day, I don't think Concierge is something every family needs to enjoy a Disney cruise. But if it fits your budget and you're looking for a little more space and a little less stress, it made our vacation feel truly special.
