Considering a King of Christmas artificial Christmas tree? This year, as every year, it's hard to believe the holidays are just around the corner. Christmas merchandise is showing up in stores, people are asking for the kiddo's Christmas list (ahh, it doesn't exist yet!), and I'm already shopping for more Christmas home decor to add to my collection. And on that note, one of many fun facts about me is that I'm highly allergic to pine trees. It's an obscure and bothersome allergy, and its strangeness is somewhat compounded by the fact that I am allergic to nothing else, so it took a while to identify. I have yet to meet a fellow sufferer... But I don't let it hinder my Christmas celebrations. We've had artificial trees my entire life, and I'm a big fan, regardless of my allergy issues. Artificial trees are less messy than real ones, you can get exactly the size you need for your room/ceiling height, and it's easy to grab them from the basement and bring them up each year, without having to leave home. When you're decorating, you can also easily adjust the tree's limbs to help you hang each ornament precisely. And, most importantly to me, you can purchase a pre-lit tree which not only saves time and general frustration and spousal discord, but also results in your tree being far more thoroughly lit than you could ever do yourself with a few strands of lights. King of Christmas offers lifelike Christmas trees in a variety of styles, including lit, unlit, slim, traditional silhouette, and flocked. King of Christmas sent me one of their trees in advance of the Christmas season (the 7'5 Yorkshire Fir) so I could see what I think! FAQ: Does King of Christmas have open box sales?Yes! I was pleasantly surprised to see that King of Christmas offers open box discounts. I'm a huge fan of open box sales, particularly for things like lighting and home decor - you can save a significant amount if you forgo pretty packaging. The only time I avoid them is when buying a gift, and since your artificial Christmas tree is most likely for your own personal enjoyment, I'd say keep an eye out for a tree that fits your needs, at a discount! Here's an example (7.5'. Yorkshire Fir Unlit Open Box) - these open box trees and products do tend to be final sale. FAQ: How does King of Christmas compare to Balsam Hill? The tree that is being replaced by our new King of Christmas tree was from Balsam Hill. It was a similar model: pre-lit, though from their 'realistic' line. I'm sad to say that the Balsam Hill tree's lights went out after 1 year of relatively light use. It was a nightmare to remove the lights so that we could string regular lights on the tree. And then, every year after, plastic hooks kept falling out of the tree at random. I'm still finding them every Christmas. While I can't speak to how long my King of Christmas tree's lights will hold up, I will say that it is as thoroughly lit as the significantly more expensive Balsam Hill tree. The King of Christmas tree is lighter and much easier to carry, assemble, and get up and down the stairs than the bulkier Balsam Hill tree. {2024} Why I Upgraded to a King of Christmas Artificial TreeAlright - let's dive right in! I'll walk through my experience with King of Christmas, including tip and tricks for finding the right tree for you and your family. Why pick an artificial tree?As I mentioned, I'm allergic to pine trees. Truly a strange allergy, but it's mine. For those of you lucky enough to go through the Christmas season without a tissue in hand, there are a few other reasons to select an artificial tree, rather than buying a real tree every year:
Do I want a pre-lit or unlit artificial tree?King of Christmas offers pre-lit trees, and traditional artificial trees without lights (lit v . non-lit Yorkshire Fir) Most trees have warm white lights, though a few trees do offer the ability to switch between white and colored lights. "Slim" v. "Full"King of Christmas trees come in either "slim" or "full" - for a more "modern" silhouette or to fit into a smaller space, opt for the "slim." In a traditional, older, suburban home with plenty of space like mine, we opted for the "full" which has a larger, broader footprint. Flocked v. Not flockedIn the world of Christmas trees, "flocking" is having a tree that is covered in fake snow. We opted for a traditional tree without flocking, since so much of the backdrop of the house is white, but if we do end up adding a second tree in the basement, I think I'm going to take the plunge and try my hand at decorating a flocked tree! Which tree did I pick?I opted for the 7.5' Yorkshire Fir. Our ceilings are 8 feet (hello, house built in 1942). Our tree is pre-lit, in the "full" silhouette, with no flocking. Shipping & DeliveryKing of Christmas offers free shipping. Once I ordered my tree, it came shockingly quickly. Almost impossibly quickly. I actually ordered it on a Wednesday and it arrived that Friday. I had to double check this to make sure I was remembering correctly! It arrived in a large, but manageable box, about 8 feet long, that fit on my porch and which I was able to get inside myself while I waited for my husband's assembly assistance. Easy AssemblyAfter removing the tree from the box, we saw we had just a tree stand, and the tree, separated into three segments. We set-up the stand, and inserted the largest, bottom tree segments. It's easiest to fluff the branches and lights out segment-by-segment, rather than assembling the entire tree and then starting the fluffing process. The box also contained one pair of elbow-length protective gloves, to protect your hands against the slightly pokey tree as you fluff. I do wish they included two pairs, but we both tried them and agreed that they made a significant difference in our comfort level while sporting the gloves. You do not have to insert individual limbs (some artificially trees are structured this way - it's a nightmare). If you get a lit tree like ours, be sure to really separate out the lights. Each bough has three separate sections that some off of it - and you get a lot more light if you really stretch out the lights. AppearanceI would say our King of Christmas tree offers a pretty traditional artificial tree appearance. The tree I received from them was a "traditional" style, rather than a "realistic." I imagine that the "realistic" has slightly more dense, plastic needles, which is probably what I would select if I had had my choice of any of their trees/no budget constraints. DecorationsKing of Christmas also sells wreaths and garlands to match the various tree styles (Yorkshire, etc.) and Christmas ornaments and tree skirts. King of Christmas |
